Topic 2

Bill Joy's six Webs are:
1. The Near Web: This is the Internet that you see when you lean over a screen - like a laptop.
2. The Here Web. This is the Internet that is always with you because you accesses it through a device you always carry - like a cell phone.
3. The Far Web. This is the Internet you see when you sit back from a big screen - like a television or a kiosk.
4. The Weird Web. This is the Internet you access through your voice and which you listen to - say when you are in your car, or when you talk to an intelligent system on your phone, or when you ask your camera a question. Joy concedes that this Web does not yet fully exist.
5. B2B. This is an Internet which does not possess a consumer interface, where business machines talk to other business machines. It is chatter of corporations amongst themselves when they do not care about their human drones.
6. D2D. This is the Internet of sensors deployed in meshes networks, adjusting urban systems for maximum efficiency. This Web also does not yet exist. Joy says that it will embed machine intelligence in ordinary, daily life.
Joy concludes by saying that, of all six Webs, number 2 - "the Here Web" - is by far the most interesting and productive of new innovations.

b) Could there be more?

Nowadays, one of the most interesting and interactive thing happening is the Augmented Reality which could be add to the 6 webs and named as the "Augmented Web"

Augmented reality is a term for a live direct or an indirect view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input, such as sound or graphics. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified by a computer.
As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real-world with a simulated one.
Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. With the help of advanced Augmented Reality technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.

c) What does it mean for business?

In terms of business it can be a huge leverage of selling, for example look at this demonstration of a website that sell clothes, Augmented reality is definitely going to help them improve their sales :

Otherwise, look at how Augmented reality can help you in your everyday life, it's gonna be huge for sure !
Here is a demo of AR to find the nearest metro station around you :

Enjoy the videos and I hope I convinced you with my personal opinion of the 7th web !
Cheers !

Topic 1

1) Internet risks – give examples of four things that can go wrong with a transactional site?

- Fraudulent ads (ex : on gumtree, we faced this problem, people put fake pics of an apartment and say they're overseas, so to get the key of the place you have to send a deposit by wester union...no track of the transaction and your money is in some else pocket...)

- Children accessing the site and making a transaction (ex: once, a child bought a castle on the auction site ebay for 1 million dollars)

- Bank block your account ( the transaction you've made can look weird according to your bank adviser, so they'll block instantaneously your bank account)

- Hackers ( some hackers can get to your own account and use it very easily...)

Nowadays, the mobile phone is the digital technology the most used worldwide.
In fact, phones are more accessible to everyone, cause a computer costs more and otherwise in some countries the internet access is not easy to get.
Here is a graphics of the digital technologies penetration rate :

8) Write a a paragraph or two describing the current importance of ICT in your professional life.

In my everyday life, the use of ICT is very important, im a children of the Y generation and the ICT became an everyday life tool as I grew up.

I use my iPhone not only for calling and texting but also for the internet access.
If I get lost in the street, I will automatically take my iPhone out of my pocket to locate me and find my way home.
Otherwise I also use it when I need a quick answer to a question, whatever the question is...i google it !

I go on the Internet everyday, and feel frustrated when I can't access it...for example I just moved in a flatshare but they don't have the internet...How am i going to watch my favorite tv shows without streaming or being able to download it ?!

Moreover, the development of applications that are stored in the Apple store just keep me connected all day long because Im going on facebook to check the last notifications i have on my account, update my status or send a picture from the place I am.
I also love the application foursquare which is a geolocalisation app' so i can let people know where I am in real time and give tips about the place.
I like memorable meals, an app' in which you store all the good meals you had by taking a picture and adding notes about it.
There is also the very practical app' of the metlink company that allowed you to know in real time when the train ,tram or buses are coming...

So as you can see, I am always connected and I love it, my digital identity is part of me now.

To conclude, here's a funny tweet I catched on the Mx this week about the earthquake in Japan, Im sure you'll find it funny ! It shows how people are now obsessed and addicted to Twitter !

See you on the next topic !
